E&C Committee Members Hold Bipartisan Teleconference Forum with NIH Director Collins on COVID-19 Response

Energy and Commerce Committee members held a bipartisan teleconference forum with National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis Collins, M.D., Ph.D., today on the ongoing response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Ranking Member Greg Walden (R-OR) released a joint statement following the call:

“Energy and Commerce members joined Director Collins today for a productive conversation on NIH’s ongoing work to combat the coronavirus. During the call, members received an update on the agency’s work to help develop COVID-19 therapeutics and vaccines, discussed readiness efforts to prepare for a future vaccine, underscored the importance of validating serological tests and received an update on NIH’s research efforts to better understand the coronavirus.

“We’re grateful to Director Collins for joining us today to update the Energy and Commerce Committee and extend our thanks to everyone at NIH working tirelessly to bring an end to this crisis.

“Today’s conversation will inform the Committee’s ongoing work to respond to the pandemic and we look forward to continuing to work together to support NIH’s vitally important biomedical and public health research."
