Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee will hold a fully remote hearing on Tuesday, July 28, at 11 a.m. (EDT) on the urgent need to reform the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The hearing is entitled, “There’s Something in the Water: Reforming Our Nation’s Drinking Water Standards."
“The American people should be able to trust that the water coming from their taps is safe, but the truth is that the landmark environmental law meant to ensure safe drinking water isn’t working," Pallone and Tonko said. “For 24 years, problems in the statute and politics have continuously blocked action to address contaminants in our drinking water. Our constituents deserve better, and this impasse simply cannot go on. We look forward to discussing what reforms Congress must enact to protect public health and ensure our drinking water is safe."
