Washington, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader for the 116th Congress Greg Walden (R-OR), Republican Leader for the 117th Congress Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Energy Subcommittee Republican Leader Fred Upton (R-MI) released the following statement on House passage of four bipartisan energy bills.
“The U.S. must be able to use all the tools in our toolkit to ensure we maintain our energy security, manage energy supply chain threats, and ensure Americans in all zip codes can access reliable affordable energy. That is why we are proud to join our colleagues on both sides of the political aisle to pass four bills that work to achieve these goals by expanding renewable hydropower production, assisting Indian Tribes in achieving energy goals, improving federal review of energy infrastructure projects, and ensuring the efficiency of ceiling fans. We thank our colleagues for joining us in passing these bills and urge the Senate to take swift action," said Walden, Rodgers, and Upton.
Today, the House passed:
* The Reliable Investment in Vital Energy Reauthorization (RIVER) Act (H.R. 3361), led by Rep. David McKinley (R-WV), which would bolster U.S. leadership on renewable hydropower energy;
* The Tribal Power Act (H.R. 5541), led by Reps. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ), which would assist Indian Tribes in meeting energy education, planning, and management needs;
* The Timely Review of Infrastructure Act (H.R. 1426), led by Reps. Pete Olson (R-TX), Randy Weber (R-TX), Mike Doyle (D-PA), and Bennie Thompson (D-MS) which would help the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) recruit and retain specialized personnel for reviewing and approving infrastructure projects; and,
* The Ceiling Fan Improvement Act of 2020 (H.R. 5758), led by Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), which revises the energy conversation standards for ceiling fans.
