Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after President Biden signed an Executive Order rejoining the United States to the Paris Climate Agreement:
“By rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, President Biden has done more to protect our country’s future and strengthen our nation’s economy with a single action than President Trump did in four years. With today’s Executive Order, President Biden has made clear that we will no longer be a nation beholden to a small group of polluters and special interests; we will no longer abandon our allies and neglect our commitments; we will no longer turn a blind eye to scientific reality or recklessly refuse to protect the lives and livelihoods of Americans for the sake of political expediency.
“Tackling the climate crisis presents a tremendous challenge, but it also presents tremendous opportunity to rebuild our country from the devastation of this pandemic. We can create millions of new, good paying jobs in clean energy, technology, manufacturing, and construction right here at home, connecting Americans with jobs that serve the dual purpose of reducing carbon pollution. Make no mistake: the rest of the world has already begun its transition to clean energy - we can either join in that transition or watch as our economy and workers get left behind. Rejoining the Paris Agreement is a loud proclamation that we refuse to let that happen on our watch, and an acknowledgement of the global cooperation it will take to fend off the worst of this rising crisis and protect our communities from catastrophe.
“I am relieved to again have a president who is willing to fight for Americans’ health and future, and proud that President Biden is hitting the ground running with today’s Executive action. I know it marks just the beginning of what we will accomplish on climate action together."
