Leader Rodgers on President Biden’s Expected Paris Climate Accord Announcement

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on April 21, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers released the following statement on President Joe Biden’s climate summit and expected announcement regarding the Paris Climate Accord.

“President Biden’s decision to force America back into the Paris Climate Accord and increase our commitments could severely hamper our global competitive edge to the benefit of the Chinese Communist Party, the world’s top carbon polluter," Rodgers said. “What the Left refuses to acknowledge is America already leads the world in reducing carbon emissions. This leadership-driven by innovation and free-market strategies-must continue without tying us to pie-in-the-sky mandates either through the Paris Climate Accord or the rush-to-green climate regulations that will destroy our jobs, raise the cost of living, threaten people’s livelihoods, and take us back to the dark ages.

“Congressman Garret Graves, Congressman Michael McCaul and I are leading the Paris Transparency and Accountability Act, which will help ensure that we can win the future without adding costly burdens resulting from the Paris Climate Accord. We should follow the American way for prosperity and security - not fall for China’s hollow promises. That’s why Energy and Commerce Republicans are leading on the Securing Cleaner American Energy Agenda by unleashing innovation for a diverse and wide range of energy resources, including natural gas, solar, wind, hydropower, carbon capture, and nuclear."
