Leader Rodgers Statement on Endless Frontier Act

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on April 27, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Republican Leader for the House Energy and Commerce Committee Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released a statement following last week’s introduction of the Endless Frontier Act.

“The Endless Frontier Act-which tries to beat the Chinese Communist Party at their own game of expansive government subsidies-is not how we will win the future. I share the goal of increasing America’s global competitive edge, but creating new, duplicative multi-billion dollar programs is not the answer. We have already seen remarkable work done at the Department of Energy (DOE) and its National Labs, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Institute for Telecommunication Sciences, and the Department of Commerce. The focus should be on improving programs at these expert agencies that have records of success leveraging federal resources to compliment and bolster private industry efforts and not repeat the mistakes of the Obama-Biden Administration.

“What we need are policies that reduce barriers to innovation and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies, like the American COMPETE Act, which was enacted in December and awaits Administration action. Regulatory certainty, low barriers to entry, and tax structures that retain and attract business is a recipe for economic leadership and prosperity. These are bipartisan issues and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and the Capitol to ensure America leads the world in technological and medical innovation. Let’s do it the American way, rather than creating more duplicative, unnecessary programs and bureaucracy."
