Pallone Praises Senate Action Restoring Methane Rule

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on April 28, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after the Senate voted to use the Congressional Review Act to restore the popular, common sense methane emissions standards established under the Obama Administration:

“The Trump Administration’s elimination of popular methane emissions standards was reckless, dangerous, and opposed by both environmentalists and the fossil fuel industry alike. When even industry mainstays like Exxon and Shell support rigorous methane rules and oppose Trump’s rollback, it becomes painfully clear just how extreme and far removed from reality many Republicans have become.

“Rolling back methane rules helped no one except a small group of the worst corporate polluters - and sold old out public health and Americans’ right to clean air in the process. I applaud the Senate for taking decisive action today to restore the methane rule and thank my colleagues Reps. Diana DeGette, Scott Peters and Conor Lamb for their leadership here in the House. I look forward to the House acting on this important legislation soon."
