Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) announced a fully remote Health Subcommittee hearing on Wednesday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) with Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra on the fiscal year 2022 discretionary budget request for HHS and its agencies. The hearing is entitled, “The Fiscal Year 2022 HHS Budget."

“President Biden’s budget request is a blueprint for his Administration’s plans to invest in the health and well-being of the American people," Pallone and Eshoo said. “As we continue to combat COVID-19 there is also a tremendous opportunity to boost funding for our nation’s core public health initiatives. We commend the Biden Administration for putting forward a budget framework that helps us prepare for future emergencies, while also prioritizing maternal health, health equity, mental health care, and the ongoing substance use disorder crisis.

“This hearing will also provide us an opportunity to discuss with Secretary Becerra ways we can work together to lower the cost of health care, expand coverage, and rein in the soaring cost of prescription drugs," Pallone and Eshoo concluded.

This hearing will be conducted remotely via Cisco Webex video conferencing. Members of the public may view the hearing via live webcast accessible on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website. Please note the webcast will not be available until the hearing begins.
