Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced today that the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee will hold a fully remote hearing on Tuesday, May 18, at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) on the future of vehicle technology. The hearing is entitled, “Promises and Perils: The Potential of Automobile Technologies."
“Last year, more than 42,000 people were tragically killed and 4.8 million injured in motor vehicle crashes, marking the largest increase in traffic deaths per vehicle miles traveled in nearly a century," said Pallone and Schakowsky. “Thankfully, cutting-edge automobile technologies have the potential to save lives and cut down on accidents, if deployed with appropriate safeguards and protections. We’re looking forward to hearing from experts about how we can harness these innovative technologies while improving America’s economic competitiveness, strengthening consumer protections, creating and protecting jobs, and growing wages."
