Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) released the following joint statement today after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2467, the PFAS Action Act of 2021, to protect Americans from PFAS contamination:
“Today the House took action to protect the communities we represent from the rising tide of PFAS contamination. PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ are being found in everything from our drinking water to our household supplies, posing an urgent and growing public health threat. Thankfully, with the passage of the PFAS Action Act today, we are now one step closer to cleaning up contamination and protecting Americans from these toxic chemicals.
“This comprehensive, bipartisan legislation will direct the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate and mitigate the flow of these ‘forever chemicals’ into our bodies and the environment, as well as provide the necessary resources for local communities to clean up contamination. We’re grateful to our colleagues for their bipartisan support of this crucial bill. For the sake of Americans’ health and wellbeing, we urge the Senate to consider this legislation immediately."
H.R. 2467, the “PFAS Action Act of 2021," was introduced by Reps. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Fred Upton (R-MI). The bill would protect Americans’ drinking water from toxic PFAS chemicals, which contaminate water and household supplies and poses severe, demonstrated health risks. The PFAS Action Act will regulate these toxic ‘forever chemicals,’ clean up contamination, and protect public health. The bill was passed on the House Floor by a vote of 241-183.
