Pallone Praises President Biden for Acting to Decarbonize the Transportation Sector

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Aug. 5, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after the Biden Administration announced a series of measures to address pollution from the transportation sector, including proposed fuel economy and tailpipe emissions standards for model years 2023-2026:

“President Biden’s actions today are a welcome reminder of what it looks like to once again be guided by common sense and science. The climate crisis is here, happening now, and proving more urgent and destructive each year. Strong, ambitious fuel economy and tailpipe emissions standards are essential to our fight and an across-the-board win for consumers, American manufacturing, public health, and the planet.

“I’m pleased the President is directing action not just on light- and medium-duty vehicles, but also on heavy-duty vehicles, which are a source of significant pollution for environmental justice communities.

“All together, today’s announcements are important steps in the right direction, and I applaud the President for his leadership. If we’re going to protect the communities we represent from air pollution and climate change, we must meet this moment with ambition and persistence. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure the Administration’s final cleaner cars and trucks standards get the job done."
