KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A federal grand jury in Kansas returned an indictment charging an Overland Park, Kansas, man on two counts of tampering with a consumer product, one count of possession of fentanyl by deception and subterfuge, and one count of possession of hydromorphone by deception and subterfuge.
According to court documents, Alec Ramirez, 30, a registered nurse, is accused of removing vials of fentanyl and hydromorphone from an automated dispensing cabinet in March 2021 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park. He is also accused of replacing the substances with an alternate liquid, then returning the vials to the cabinet.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Food and Drug Administration - Office of Criminal Investigations are investigating the case.
