WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) released the following statement commemorating the 65th anniversary of the invasion of Normandy (D-Day):
"Sixty-five years later we remain a country in awe of the heroism of the young men who stormed the beaches of Normandy to fight and die so others could be free. There is no greater example of America's values and commitment than the sacrifice those young men made for their country and the world and what their generation did afterwards to ensure that Europe would remain free through the Marshall Plan. The successful capture of those beaches began a long journey that included monumental battles in the frigid forests of Belgium, the destruction of Nazi death camps, and eventually, the liberation of the peoples of Europe from the grips of tyranny.
