Newark, NJ - U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued this statement following Secretary of State Kerry’s announcement that an agreement for the resumption of a framework for peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians has been reached.

Secretary Kerry briefed Chairman Menendez about these latest developments within the past hour. The statement follows:

“I am encouraged by today's announcement and Secretary Kerry deserves praise for his tireless efforts to bring the parties together," said Menendez. “Peace between Israel and the Palestinians is a vital U.S. national security concern, it can only happen through face-to-face direct negotiations, and two states for two people living side by side in peace and security remains the only formula. I also strongly believe that this is the best chance for the Palestinians to fulfill their aspirations by negotiating with Israel and resuming the journey to achieving Arab-Israeli peace."
