K. Lynn Berry, superintendent of Congaree National Park in South Carolina, will relocate in the spring and serve in the same position for four Oakland, California-area national parks.
The National Park Service announced Berry as superintendent of Eugene O’Neill and John Muir National Historic Sites, Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial and Rosie the Riveter-World War II Home Front National Historical Park, in a Feb. 23 press release.
"I very much look forward to supporting the teams at these unique and important parks," Berry said in the release. "The parks' stories inspire me, but I'm even more impressed by what I've heard about how the staff is telling these stories and engaging surrounding communities. It will be an honor to help them continue growing those connections."
Berry has served in several roles with the NPS including national heritage area program manager and centennial coordinator for the South Atlantic Gulf Region, as well as acting superintendent of DeSoto National Memorial, the release stated.
"K. Lynn brings a wealth of experience working cooperatively with communities and partners to support access and stewardship," NPS Pacific West Regional Director, Frank Lands, said in the release. "This experience will help connect park and community interests in mutually beneficial ways throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond."
Berry has been the superintendent for Congaree National Park for more than three years, taking the job in November 2018, according to the release. She also served as the regional chief of community assistance and partnerships for the National Capital Area, and acting superintendent of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
She has worked for the NPS since 2010, following nine years with the U.S. Department of Transportation, the release stated.
