Rep. John Kline (R-MN), the top Republican on the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee, today called on congressional Democrats to pull back from their arbitrary deadlines for voting on an overhaul of our nation’s health care system and give Members of Congress adequate time to fully assess the consequences of newly introduced legislation on jobs, small businesses, and the quality of health care in America.
“Health care reform is far too important to rush through Congress in a few days or a few weeks. As the internal squabbles in the Democratic party have demonstrated, this half-baked proposal is not going to deliver the commonsense, bipartisan health care solutions Americans need," said Kline.
Kline’s comments came in response to the introduction of a 1,018-page piece of health care legislation that has been slated by Democrats for simultaneous consideration in three separate congressional committees later this week.<
“From the number of Americans who stand to lose their current health care coverage to the size of the small business tax that will be foisted on our economy, there are too many unanswered questions for a vote this week. It’s time to slow down. Our health care system needs reform, and it needs to be done the right way."
