On Tuesday, October 4 at 10:00 a.m., the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training, chaired by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), will hold a hearing entitled, “Modernizing the Workforce Investment Act: Developing an Effective Job Training System for Workers and Employers." The hearing will take place in room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) established a network of one-stop centers that offer employment services and job training opportunities. However, due to persistent unemployment, a discouraged workforce, and a dramatically altered economic landscape, the Workforce Investment Act is in need of reform to better address the challenges facing workers. To ensure employers are able to find skilled and qualified workers to fill job opportunities, job training programs must be more innovative and responsive to the workforce demands at the state and local level.
