U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), the Chairman of the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Members of Congress from Georgia, GDOT, and business leaders from Coca-Cola, UPS, and the Georgia Ports Authority will hold a roundtable meeting in Atlanta next week to discuss the region’s infrastructure, its importance to the economy, and the need for legislation that improves the nation’s highways, bridges, and other transportation systems.
The roundtable will examine such issues as the national freight network and Atlanta’s role in that network; the federal role in ensuring a cohesive, efficient, national transportation network; and how the federal government can improve and streamline infrastructure programs to help ensure the transportation network meets the needs of our economy. The Transportation Committee continues to develop legislation to fund highway, bridge, and transit improvements; a bill to modernize the U.S. aviation system; and other infrastructure initiatives for Congressional action later this year.
Georgia Members of Congress currently scheduled to join Chairman Shuster for the roundtable include U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (GA-07), U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (GA-14), and U.S. Rep. Rick Allen (GA-12).
The roundtable is open to the public and press. Members of the media please RSVP to Justin.Harclerode@mail.house.gov.
