Next Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Aviation will hold a hearing to explore issues related to the commercial space transportation industry, focusing on stakeholders’ perspectives on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) ongoing regulatory reform efforts.
Since 1984, the FAA’s Office of Commercial Space Transportation (AST) has regulated the commercial space transportation industry by licensing and permitting commercial space launches, vehicle reentry and launch sites. AST also ensures mitigation of risks to persons and property posed by commercial space operations.
The hearing will examine potential areas of enhancement to the regulatory process in order to facilitate the success of the commercial space transportation industry and the safety of the general public. The Subcommittee will hear testimony from representatives of the commercial space transportation industry and commercial airline pilots.
The hearing of the Subcommittee on Aviation, chaired by U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), is entitled “Commercial Space Transportation Regulatory Reform: Stakeholder Perspectives." The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building.
