Chairs DeFazio, Napolitano Respond to Trump Executive Orders

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on April 11, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Chair of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA) responded to President Donald Trump’s Executive Orders to ease the permitting process for oil and gas pipelines, weakening the Clean Water Act.

“President Trump’s executive order to speed up oil and gas projects is just another attack on our planet. The idea that this will somehow streamline infrastructure projects is a farce. Not only are they attempting to strip away states’ authority to protect water in their region, they are stacking the deck in favor of oil and gas companies without concern for local communities. This Administration is once again attempting to undermine bedrock environmental laws in order to give their industry friends a hand," the Members said.
