MADISON, WIS. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Weston Hoare-Baltes, 20, Stoughton, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Lyn Adelman to 30 months in prison, followed by three-years of supervised release, for unlawfully receiving firearms while under felony information. Hoare-Baltes pleaded guilty to this charge on Oct. 3, 2013.
In May 2013, Hoare-Baltes was charged with a felony, armed robbery, in Dane County for his role in the burglary of Grandpa’s Gun Shop in May 2010. Hoare-Baltes, a juvenile at the time, was offered a deferred prosecution agreement. Hoare-Baltes failed to abide by the terms of that agreement because he continued to commit crimes. As a result, he was still under felony information for that offense, as well as a burglary in Rock County, in May 2013 when he stole three firearms from his grandmother’s house and sold them. Under federal law, persons under felony information may not receive firearms.
The charge against Hoare-Baltes was the result of an investigation conducted by the Dane County Sheriff’s Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
