Murkowski: Kenai Gas Discovery Good News for Southcentral

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today released the following statement regarding Buccaneer Energy’s discovery of substantial quantities of natural gas in Kenai:

“New gas supplies are crucial to meet the power needs of Southcentral. I’m optimistic that the renewed interest we’ve seen in and around Cook Inlet will result in a reliable source of gas for local utilities.

“The news last week that Buccaneer has discovered more gas at Kenai Loop No. 1 - the Walmart well - is certainly good news. A preliminary finding that 10 million cubic feet may be available is helpful, especially when there is a far bigger area still to test, toward meeting Southcentral gas needs.

“The state’s incentives have succeeded in bringing more independents to the table to hunt for the gas. But there are going to have to be more discoveries at a fast pace for Southcentral’s gas needs in the future to be met."
