WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) today released the following statement on the U.S. Coast Guard report on the investigation into 2012 grounding of Shell’s Kulluk mobile drilling unit at Alaska’s Sitkalidak Island:

“I commend the Coast Guard for conducting a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the grounding of the Kulluk near Kodiak Island. The service has made a number of good recommendations to improve the safety of maritime activities as exploration of the Arctic moves forward. I believe that we can safely develop our energy resources in the Arctic, but it requires that we adhere to world-class safety standards."
