WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today announced that Alaska-based TDX Power is one of seven utilities nationally to be awarded funding from the Department of Energy (DOE) under a program supporting the enhancement of small utility systems, or microgrids, of less than 10 megawatts.
DOE is investing more than $8 million in the seven projects - including awardees in Alaska, California, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Tennessee, and Washington - to help small communities better prepare for potential electricity disruptions. Each project includes a company cost share of between 20 percent to 50 percent.
TDX Power, which is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, will receive approximately $1.2 million under the program to design and build a microgrid control system on Saint Paul Island in the Bering Sea. The new control system will incorporate a wide range of energy resources to support the island’s existing generation facilities and to strengthen the resiliency of the electric infrastructure, lower energy costs, and reduce emissions.
