Sen. Murkowski: EU Stress Test Shows Opportunity for U.S. Energy Exports

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today highlighted the “stress test" report released by the European Commission.

“We have an opportunity to sell surplus American energy to our friends and allies in Europe," Murkowski said. “This requires continuing the build-out of our liquefaction capacity for gas and lifting the ban on oil exports."

The report states: “LNG is clearly the import source with the biggest potential as LNG terminals in the EU have sufficient capacity to allow new LNG volumes to be shipped in." Further, “the possibility of additional pipeline gas to the EU is limited and some Member States have limited access to alternative pipeline sources other than Russian. Therefore LNG is the key alternative to increase supplies in case of serious shortfalls."

Murkowski is the top Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
