Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY) released the following statement about bipartisan health bills that passed the House of Representatives.
“Today, the People’s House took action on bipartisan Energy and Commerce bills aimed to build a healthier future in America.
“The Methamphetamine Response Act led by Congressman John Curtis will direct the Office of National Drug Control Policy to develop a methamphetamine response plan so the federal government is better prepared to address the emerging threat of methamphetamine-involved overdose deaths.
“The Suicide Training and Awareness Nationally Delivered for Universal Prevention Act led by Congressman Gus Bilirakis will facilitate suicide prevention training for students and young Americans. This is especially critical after government enforced COVID-19 school shutdowns have contributed to a rise in mental health emergencies among our youth, especially teen girls.
“Finally, The Supporting the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health and the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the Food and Drug Administration Act led by Congressman Richard Hudson will help accelerate future medication innovations in America.
“We thank all our colleagues for their hard work on these bipartisan bills. All three solutions have passed the Senate and will go to the president’s desk to be signed into law.”
