Martinsburg, WV - The U.S. Marshals arrested a man in Florida today who is wanted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Hubert Woodruff Diamond, 58, of Shepherdstown is wanted on a charge of sexual abuse by a parent or guardian and a charge of incest. Diamond is also wanted for failing to appear for trial.
On Feb. 19, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office requested the Marshals’ assistance in locating and apprehending Diamond. The Marshals developed information that Diamond had fled the state of West Virginia and gone to Florida where a girlfriend owned property. After months of investigating, the U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force, working in conjunction with the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, brought Diamond’s fugitive status to an end.
Today, the Marshals, assisted by Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Green Cove Springs Police Department, located Diamond on a 134-foot vessel anchored on the St. Johns River, approximately 400 yards from Green Cove Springs, Florida. Diamond was taken into custody and charged as a fugitive from justice. Diamond will be extradited from Florida back to West Virginia to face his charges.
