Concord, NH - This afternoon, “Fugitive of the Week," Louis Tobin, 32, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals out of the Burlington, Vermont office. Tobin was being sought on a federal escape warrant. Tobin had been serving part of his federal sentence at a Manchester, NH half-way house for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin when he fled the facility on Aug. 15, 2019.
Mr. Tobin was featured last Wednesday as the “Fugitive of the Week." This feature was aired on WTPL-FM, WMUR-TV, The Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph, The Patch, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Manchester Information, the Manchester Ink Link, the Rochester Voice and prominently featured on the internet. The “Fugitive of the Week" continues to be a very successful tool that has resulted in the location and arrest of numerous fugitives since its implementation in 2007. Additionally, the “Fugitive of the Week" is distributed statewide to all law enforcement officers.
This afternoon, the U.S. Marshals in Vermont received an anonymous tip that Tobin was currently at a local hospital in Burlington, VT where he was visiting a friend. Deputy US Marshals responded to the hospital, where they located and arrested Tobin without incident.
Tobin is currently being held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Center in South Burlington, Vermont pending his initial court appearance at the U.S. District Court in Burlington, VT tomorrow.
Since the inception of the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in 2002, these partnerships have resulted in over 7,751 arrests (Updated as of 07/25/2019). These arrests have ranged in seriousness from murder, assault, unregistered sex offenders, probation and parole violations and numerous other serious offenses. Nationally the United States Marshals Service fugitive programs are carried out with local law enforcement in 94 district offices, 85 local fugitive task forces, 8 regional task forces, as well as a growing network of offices in foreign countries.
