Philadelphia, PA - On November, 6th, at approximately 7:30pm, members of the U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force and Philadelphia Police arrested Khalif Moore, 33. Moore was wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department for homicide by vehicle in relation to a October 26th fatal hit and run involving a 26 year old man and his dog, which occurred in the 700 block of west Berks Street. An arrest warrant was issued for Moore on October 30th, 2019. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia then adopted the case and began a fugitive investigation.
On Wednesday night, Deputy Marshals in Philadelphia developed information Moore may be hiding with a family member in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. At 7:30pm Federal Marshals from Philadelphia and members of the Philadelphia Police Department’s 35th District proceeded to a residence in the unit block of west Duval street. Upon searching the home, Moore was found hiding in the basement. After a brief struggle, Moore was placed under arrest. Moore was then transported to Philadelphia Police Headquarters for processing.
This investigation included members of the Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Accident Investigation Division (AID). Eric Gartner, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania stated, “It was a priviledge to support our Philadelphia Police partners in bringing this matter to a safe conclusion, and to hopefully provide some semblance of closure to Michael Canals’ family."
The Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force is a team of law enforcement officers led by U.S. Marshals in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. The task force’s objective is to seek out and arrest violent crime fugitives. Membership agencies include the Philadelphia Police Department, Pennsylvania State Parole Officers, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Attorney General Agents, and Bucks County Sheriffs.
