Cummings Issues Statement on Proposed Agreement on Fast and Furious

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on June 18, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington DC -Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to a letter from Attorney General Eric Holder to the Committee proposing an in-person meeting on Tuesday, June 19, to finalize a proposed agreement between the Department and the Committee to avoid a contempt vote scheduled for this Wednesday:

I am encouraged that the Committee has taken off the table its demands for documents the Attorney General is prohibited by law from producing to the Committee, and I am also encouraged that the Attorney General has now offered a second, significant accommodation for documents relating to its letter to Senator Grassley on February 4, 2011. Last week, the Chairman asked for a “serious proposal" on these documents, and the Attorney General gave us one the next day. I look forward to our meeting tomorrow with the Attorney General to finalize the terms of this proposed agreement, and I see no reason to proceed with contempt given these positive developments.
