Cummings Praises Supreme Court Ruling on Early Voting in Ohio

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Oct. 16, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court decision today to refuse to stop Ohioans from voting early during the three days leading up to Election Day:

“I am very encouraged that all voters in Ohio will have the same opportunity they had in the last election to participate in early voting during the weekend before the election. We should always strive to expand voter participation as much as possible rather than suppress it for partisan reasons like the Republicans tried to do in Ohio. This was a hard fought victory, and I hope citizens will exercise their right to vote in record numbers this year."
