Cummings Lauds Nomination of Mel Watt to Lead FHFA

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to press reports that Congressman Mel Watt (D-NC) has been nominated to be the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA):

“I am very encouraged by recent reports that the President is planning to nominate Mel Watt to head the FHFA. Congressman Watt has deep expertise in housing policy and a record of distinguished service on the House Financial Services Committee. He will be an excellent Director for FHFA."

FHFA has operated without a permanent director for nearly four years.
