Washington, DC -Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announcing the hiring of a new permanent Chief Information Officer (CIO), David De Vries:

“I commend OPM’s Acting Director, Beth Cobert, for making an excellent choice in hiring Mr. De Vries. Ms. Cobert has proven to be an exceptional leader. Unfortunately, the Senate has delayed confirming her nomination as director of OPM since November 2015, and that is a barrier to improving cyber security at OPM. "
