TUESDAY: Warren and Cummings to Convene Forum on Poverty in America

WASHINGTON, DC ­­- On Tuesday, June 12, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Representative Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) will convene a forum at the U.S. Capitol to examine poverty in America. Panelists will include the Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II and the Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, co-chairs of the Poor People's Campaign, and individuals who will share personal stories about poverty and economic injustice.

The forum is open press. Members of the media are asked to RSVP to press@warren.senate.gov. A live video stream will be available on Senator Warren's Facebook page.

** Pamela Sue Rush, a 48-year old mother of two from Lowndes County, Alabama, whose home does not have access to county sanitation services.

** Christopher Olive, a formerly homeless, 27-year old military veteran from Grays Harbor County, Washington.

** Amy Jo Hutchinson, a single mom with two girls who grew up in poverty, and an organizer with the West Virginia Healthy Kids and Families Coalition, who advocates for children in poverty.

** Nic Smith, a Roanoke, a Virginia Waffle House worker and organizer with the Fight for $15, who comes from a community of mine workers in coal country.

** Vanessa Nosie, from the Apache Stronghold in Oak Flat, Arizona, whose sacred land was acquired by a mining company and whose burial ground was recently desecrated.

* There will be others in attendance from Kentucky, North Carolina, California, and several other of the 40 states where Poor People's Campaign actions are taking place.
