Washington, D.C. -Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, and Committee Member Rep. Katie Porter sent letters to the Carbon Health Medical Group, Everlywell, Inc., and Nurx, Inc. seeking information about each company’s at-home coronavirus test kits.
“On March 20, 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cautioned against using at-home testing kits as their accuracy has yet to be clearly determined," Krishnamoorthi and Porter wrote. “On March 21, 2020, FDA made clear that its Emergency Use Authorization Guidelines bar the use of at-home sample collection, and that it ‘has not authorized any test that is available for purchase for testing yourself at home for COVID-19.’"
Given FDA’s statements on this issue, the Subcommittee requests the companies respond to questions regarding their at-home coronavirus test kits by March 27, 2020.
“It is critical that all consumers are protected from companies attempting to profit off of a public health crisis," Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney said. “I applaud the Economic and Consumer Policy Subcommittee for continuing to keep a close watch for all consumers."
