Chairs Maloney and Lynch Issue Statement on Resignation of Lieutenant Colonel Vindman

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on July 9, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. -Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Stephen F. Lynch, Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, issued the following statement following the resignation of Lieutenant Colonel Vindman:

“Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman is an American patriot. Secretary of Defense Esper promised that LTC Vindman had no reason to fear retaliation, but that promise was meaningless in the face of the President’s relentless and baseless attacks. Everyone in this country should understand that what President Trump did is wrong. Nobody-and certainly not the President-should publicly attack a military servicemember and public servant who did nothing but honorably fulfill his oath to tell the truth. We will be calling on the Department of Defense Inspector General to investigate these allegations of retaliation and report back to our Committee as soon as possible."
