Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, issued the following statement after President Donald Trump released Executive Orders on drug pricing:
“After being elected, President Trump warned that drug companies are ‘getting away with murder,’ and he promised to negotiate for lower drug prices. But more than three years later, drug companies are still making outrageous profits at the expense of patients and taxpayers across the United States. Today’s Executive Orders do little more than repackage policy ideas this Administration has failed to carry out, and they are not sufficient to address the challenges American families are facing.
“At today’s announcement President Trump complained that ‘we are restricted [by] Congress from negotiating the price of drugs.’ But ten months ago, the House passed H.R. 3-the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act-a bill that would do just that by allowing Medicare to finally begin negotiating to meaningfully lower drug prices for consumers. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans refuse to even take it up. If President Trump wanted to help American families afford their medications, he and his party would support this legislation."
