WASHINGTON - Today, House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) issued the following statement on Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney’s call to extend the current Census deadlines.
“With the Democrats, it’s always ‘the sky is falling.’ Today’s latest call to extend the Census deadline is another phony crisis. Just last week, Census officials told the House Committee on Oversight and Reform that they anticipate a complete and accurate Census under current deadlines. The current deadlines are data-driven and officials have full confidence they will meet their obligations under the law. Additionally, major technological advances since the last Census have allowed for a quicker and more secure data input and have enhanced quality control measures. Contrary to the Democrats’ constant political theater, Americans can have confidence that the Census will be accurate and completed on time."
