WASHINGTON-House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) today announced the ranking members and membership of the panel’s five subcommittees for the 117th Congress.
“The House Committee on Oversight and Reform has a talented lineup of Republican Members and our new leadership team will be instrumental in our efforts to hold the federal government accountable and make it more transparent to the people it serves," said Ranking Member Comer. “The Oversight Committee has a duty to identify government, waste, fraud, and abuse and to find solutions to ensure taxpayers’ dollars are spent effectively and efficiently. Together, we will work to provide a check and balance on the role and power in Washington and ensure Americans’ voices are heard."
Below are the subcommittee ranking members and membership for the 117th Congress:
Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Subcommittee
Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) will serve as the new ranking member of the Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Subcommittee. Members of the subcommittee are:
* Jim Jordan (R-Ohio)
* Clay Higgins (R-La.)
* Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.)
* Nancy Mace (R-S.C.)
* Scott Franklin (R-Fla.)
* Byron Donalds (R-Fla.)
Rep. Sessions said, “We live in the greatest nation in the world in which Americans are inherently born with freedoms not afforded to all. We come from various backgrounds with unique perspectives yet, share the privilege of having constitutional rights and liberties. Like many Texans in district 17, my priorities are faith, family, and freedom… in that order. For the well-being of our great country, I vow to defend these fundamental rights."
Economic and Consumer Policy Subcommittee
Rep. Michael Cloud (R-Texas) returns to serve as the ranking member of the Economic and Consumer Policy Subcommittee. Members of the subcommittee are:
* Fred Keller (R-Pa.)
* Scott Franklin (R-Fla.)
* Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.)
* Byron Donalds (R-Fla.)
Rep. Cloud said, “From the beginning, I have said that Washington is broken. I was first motivated to come to Congress because it is evident that the government is not working for the American people. We need to make drastic changes to the way Congress does business to ensure the forgotten men and women around the country have a say in their government. My priorities on the committee include ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, passing common-sense reforms to combat waste, and bringing about transparency at the highest levels of government. I will continue to use my leadership position on the committee to hold our federal government accountable."
Environment Subcommittee
Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) will serve as the new ranking member of the Environment Subcommittee. Members of the subcommittee are:
* Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.)
* Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio)
* Pat Fallon (R-Texas)
* Yvette Herrell (R-N.M.)
Rep. Norman said, “For both current and future generations, so much is at stake when it comes to our nation’s environmental policies. That’s why I’m honored to have been selected as the ranking member for the Environment Subcommittee on House Oversight, and look forward to the important work ahead of us during the 117th Congress."
Government Operations Subcommittee
Rep. Jody Hice (R-Ga.) returns to serve as the ranking member of the Government Operations Subcommittee. Members of the subcommittee are:
* Fred Keller (R-Pa.)
* Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.)
* Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.)
* Nancy Mace (R-S.C.)
* Jake LaTurner (R-Kan.)
* Yvette Herrell (R-N.M.)
Rep. Hice said, “With hundreds of departments and agencies and 2.1 million civilian employees, the federal government is a behemoth that needs strict oversight. Americans expect Oversight Republicans to hold the Biden Administration accountable and find and correct waste, fraud, and abuse across federal agencies - and the Government Operations Subcommittee is a vital part of that mission with its expansive jurisdiction. Whether it is reforming the federal bureaucracy, protecting whistleblowers, overseeing agency management, or any of a dozen other key areas, this Subcommittee is on the frontlines in the fight to make the federal government accountable, effective, and efficient, and I am honored to again be named its Ranking Member."
National Security Subcommittee
Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.) returns to serve as the ranking member of the National Security Subcommittee. Members of the subcommittee are:
* Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.)
* Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.)
* Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio)
* Clay Higgins (R-La.)
Rep. Grothman said, “It is an honor to once again serve as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on National Security. This subcommittee plays an important role in making sure the interests of the United States are being represented fairly. That includes jurisdiction to oversee immigration and border security, which is rapidly declining under the Biden administration and will require a massive amount of oversight. This subcommittee also has purview of issues affecting veterans. As Ranking Member, I will make sure our veterans are getting a fair shake, our borders are not being taken advantage of and the United States’ relationships with other countries are being upheld justly."
