Clyburn Praises New CDC Guidance for Fully Vaccinated People

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on May 13, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, issued the following statement after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced new guidance indicating that, except in rare cases, fully vaccinated people can safely be indoors without a mask and without distancing:

“Today’s announcement is a victory for science and for the American people and reaffirms the benefits of being fully vaccinated. Because of the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, bolstered by the resources in the American Rescue Plan, the nearly 120 million Americans who are fully vaccinated can, in all but a few situations, safely remove their masks indoors and no longer need to stay distanced from others. This is a significant and exciting milestone on our country’s path back to normalcy."

“Of course, this guidance only impacts those who have been fully vaccinated; those who have not remain at considerable risk from this deadly virus. The good news is that coronavirus vaccines-and the safety they provide-are free and available to all Americans over the age of 12. I urge everyone to take advantage of this remarkable scientific achievement and get vaccinated as soon as possible."
