Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkos named 33 new members to the Security Advisory Council.
This decision was taken in advance of the Council's first meeting on March 21.
"These distinguished leaders have agreed to serve our country as members of the Homeland Security Advisory Council at a critically important time not only for the nation but also for the world," Mayorkos said in a Homeland Security release.
The Secretary's Advisory Council consists of past cabinet secretaries from both Democratic and Republican presidents, according to the release. The members include chief executive officers from businesses relating to technology, energy, transportation, financial, food and consumer products, and venture capital industries. There are also executive leaders of national law enforcement organizations, Presidents and CEOs of non-profit organizations about human rights, government accountability, and community security and empowerment. Leaders of nonpartisan policy institutes are also included in the critical group.
These appointments fit within Mayorkas' plan of restructuring and re-envisioning the Council so it works more closely with the Department to meet the obstacles and take advantage of the opportunities that a changing homeland security scene presents and define the future of the Department, according to the release. Judge William Webster is the Council's Chair Emeritus.
