House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the Biden administration announced a partnership with the European Union to increase American exports of liquified natural gas (LNG) to Europe.
“I agree America must lead to reduce Europe’s reliance on Russian natural gas. The administration must do more. Rather than maintain the existing regulatory environment, let’s flip the switch on American domestic energy production and supply.
“I continue to urge President Biden to lift the oil and natural gas drilling moratorium on federal lands and waters, approve permits for pipelines and LNG export facilities, and end the regulatory uncertainty that is keeping our vast energy resources in the ground.
“Unleashing American energy production today will strengthen our geopolitical power and help our allies diversify away from Russian supplies. We must come together around strong American leadership so Vladimir Putin can never again hold the world hostage over energy.”
NOTE: Leader Rodgers and House Committee on Natural Resources Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (R-AR) introduced H.R. 6858, the American Energy Independence from Russia Act. If enacted, this would unleash American energy production and help support our allies to be independent from Russian energy.
- It removes all restrictions on U.S. liquified natural gas (LNG) exports to help Europe replace Russian gas
- It restarts oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters – which was halted by the Biden administration
- It protects American energy and mineral development from attacks by the Biden administration
- It requires Biden to submit an energy security plan within 30 days and requires the Secretary of Energy to develop a plan to replace oil drawn down from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve
- It immediately approves the Keystone XL pipeline so we can import oil from Canada instead of Russia
