Today, Administrator Power met with United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Executive Director Grete Faremo. They discussed coordinated efforts to respond to the humanitarian crisis resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Administrator Power shared that USAID has a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) based in the region coordinating with humanitarian partners to reach Ukrainians in need and the two discussed ways to increase communications and coordination.
Administrator Power and Executive Director Faremo also discussed UNOPS work to address critical liquidity issues in Afghanistan, and they spoke about the urgency of addressing climate change and the need to integrate climate considerations into all aspects of our work and programming. Administrator Power also reinforced that the U.S. Government considers protection from sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harassment within the UN system a priority.
