Biden administration nominates Durakoglu, of New Jersey, as assistant secretary of state

President Joe Biden nominated Naz Durakoglu Monday to be the assistant secretary of state for Legislative Affairs, the White House said.

Durakoglu, of New Jersey, would replace Mary Elizabeth Taylor, who resigned.

According to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, her nomination is on the Senate Executive Calendar in the Privileged Nomination section with nominee information requested.

According to her LinkedIn page, Durakoglu has been acting assistant secretary of state and principal deputy assistant secretary of state since January 2021. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Durakoglu previously worked as senior national security advisor to U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), as a strategist and senior fellow at the Digital Forensic Research Lab in Washington, D.C., as senior advisor in the bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs in the U.S. State Department and as a U.S. House staff member, for U.S. Reps. William Keating (D-MA), Anthony Weiner (D-NY) and Michael McMahon (D-NY).

From 2007 to 2008, Durakoglu worked on the National Advance Staff for Hillary Clinton for President.

According to her LinkedIn page, she is a graduate of Rutgers University and the U.S. Naval War College. 

Taylor was nominated by President Donald Trump in August 2018 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in Oct. 2018. She previously worked as an aide to U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
