The Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) recently chose Lara Grillos to manage the Bureau’s Civil Rights Division.

Grillos will oversee civil rights, diversity, and equal opportunity matters for the BOR to ensure the organization is more inclusive for people of all backgrounds, according to an April 4 press release.

“Lara is a fantastic leader ensuring employees know they work for a bureau that supports them and is inclusive, equitable, and accessible and is seeking greater diversity" Grayford Payne, deputy commissioner of the BOR, said in the release. "Her leadership and devotion to doing this work will help make Reclamation a better place for everyone who works here.”

Grillos, who has a Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado Boulder, has worked in the Civil Rights Division since 2018, the release stated.

She expressed her joy about the promotion.

“I am really excited for the opportunity to continue growing all aspects of Reclamation’s civil rights programs and ensuring we proactively consider equity in all aspects of how we engage with our employees and the American public,” she said.

Grillos has worked diligently to build the civil rights program into a model equal employment opportunity organization, according to the release. Before she came to Reclamation, she served as a regional equal employment opportunity manager for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and as an attorney advisor for the Western Area Power Administration’s civil rights office.
