Leader Rodgers Urges FERC to Flip the Switch to Unleash American Energy

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on March 24. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) meeting today where the Commission walked back its controversial natural gas policy statements.

“FERC’s decision to set aside its past statements is a step in the right direction. Over the last year at FERC there has been substantial regulatory uncertainty, which has prevented important energy infrastructure upgrades. As a result of FERC’s inaction, more than a dozen natural gas pipeline projects and at least six LNG-related applications have been unnecessarily delayed. This has increased energy prices for American consumers and undermined our ability to help Europe reduce its reliance on Russian natural gas.

“Chairman Glick should abandon his political agenda and work with his fellow commissioners to immediately approve all pending natural gas permits that have been unnecessarily delayed by this bureaucratic review process. Let’s focus on flipping the switch for more American energy. Many of the pending applications are routine and require no additional review. Approving them will help create jobs, lower energy costs, and help our allies diversify away from Russian supplies to stop funding Putin’s war chest."
