Washington, D.C. - House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement on the Biden administration issuing a national waiver for E15 gasoline to be used this summer.
“While biofuels are an important part of our fuel mix, let’s be clear-eyed about what this announcement is. It’s another temporary attempt that distracts from the energy, inflation, and supply chain crises this administration’s policies helped create. Just like the announcement to draw down our Strategic Petroleum Reserve until close to election day, it’s not been the President’s priority to lower gas prices in the long term.
“Let’s pull people back from this price cliff and work to pass long-term, bipartisan solutions that promote affordable energy, innovation, and a plentiful and diverse fuel supply for all of America. The answer is to flip the switch for more domestic production and energy infrastructure here at home. Let’s say ‘yes’ to American energy to deliver the affordability and reliability that people need."
NOTE: Leader Rodgers and House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (R-AR) are leading H.R. 6858, the American Energy Independence from Russia Act. It would lower prices and promote American energy independence by:
* Removing all restrictions on liquified natural gas (LNG) exports
* Restarting oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters - which was halted by the Biden administration
* Immediately approving the Keystone XL pipeline
* Protecting American energy and mineral development from attacks by the Biden administration
* Requiring Biden to submit an energy security plan within 30 days and requires the Secretary of Energy to develop a plan to replace oil drawn down from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve
