Harkin Applauds HHS Contraception Draft Rule

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Feb. 1, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON-Today, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee - and author of the prevention title of the Affordable Care Act - released the following statement on the Administration’s proposed rule on contraceptive cost sharing for religious organizations:

“I am pleased to see the Administration moving forward on efforts to help women get the preventive care they need and deserve, with no out-of-pocket costs. The prevention measures I pushed for in the Affordable Care Act are crucial to American families. Providing women access to contraception and other preventive care empowers them to make their own health care decisions. I believe that today’s announcement strikes the right balance; providing women with access to contraceptive coverage while respecting the concerns of religious organizations. I look forward to continuing to work with the Administration to ensure that Americans can benefit from all of the prevention and wellness provisions in the Affordable Care Act."
