Murray on Trump Executive Order: “Opens the Door to More Discrimination, Hate, and Division”

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on May 4, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

(Washington, D.C.) - Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), top Democrat on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, condemned President Trump for signing an executive order that would facilitate discrimination of LGBTQ individuals, women, religious minorities, and others under the guise of religious freedom.

“President Trump’s latest damaging administrative action will open the door to more discrimination, hate, and division in communities across our country against LGBTQ Americans, women, religious minorities, and others, including accelerating the Administration’s efforts to interfere with women’s ability to make their own health care decisions. I will be working closely with my colleagues on ways to fight back against the harm this executive order will cause."
