Vice President Pence Predicts End of Safe Legal Abortion in U.S.; Murray Says “Not On My Watch”

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Feb. 28, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and highest ranking woman in the United States Senate, issued the following statement in response to Vice President Mike Pence’s prediction that access to legal abortions could end “in our time."

“My message to Vice President Pence is this: not on my watch. In the 21st century, a woman’s freedom to make the health care choices that are right for her and her family-including access to safe, legal abortion-should not be up for debate. I will tell extreme politicians like the Vice President as many times as I have to that they have absolutely no business interfering with women’s decisions about their own bodies, and he can be sure women nationwide will fight each and every day against efforts to turn back the clock on our constitutional rights in our country."
